Chicago Nissan Dealer gets 5 Star review from Oak Park Nissan customer

Salesperson: Mikko Hendricks
Department: Sales
Good Morning Tim,

This is Mark Rogers, I had the pleasure to meet you on Friday afternoon.

I know that I mentioned this to you yesterday, but I also wanted to send you a note in writing so that you can forward it to the appropriate team members.

The experience was wonderful at Hawkinson Nissan!!!! My daughter needed to replace her car and she most certainly came to the right place!!!!  Her salesman “Doc” was outstanding!!! There was no pressure and made her purchase experience most pleasurable.  Art (Sales manager) and Dave (Finance manager) made you feel like family. I was very impressed. Sadly enough you don’t see that type of treatment in the new car industry. It seems more often that establishments and staff just want to make a quick sale and grab your money. That certainly is not the case at Hawkinson Nissan.  Everyone in the service area was nothing short of five star!!!! Her concerns about her new car may have seemed trivial, but your team made you feel that it was the most important thing in the world.  It is without a doubt that your organization has a different way of doing business and your way of doing business will certainly keep Hawkinson Nissan the place to go for your Nissan needs for a long time to come.   In closing, thank you for a great experience, and thank you for making my daughter a very happy 1st time car purchaser!!!!  Mark R.

Our reply Mark,  Hi!  Wow thanks for the great compliments about our staff.  We are fortunate to have Dave and Doc on our staff.  Both are professional and great guys!

Thank you for buying from Hawkinson Nissan

Like I told you yesterday I am always available to assist with anything that you guys may need.
Thanks again! PS.  we are giving $400 for any sold referral this month.  You must call me or email me direct with the information for the person buying the car.
Sincerely,
Tim Curran
General Sales Manager / Hawkinson Nissan

Nissan 370Z: Rev up your senses. For the past 40 years, Nissan’s hard- and soft-top Z-cars

have provided plenty of good times for their owners, and the new 370Z convertible promises more of the same, but with added comfort

and performance in a lighter and sleeker package.

“The 370Z represents what Nissan is about: value and performance,”

said Tony Gonzalez, General Manager of Napleton Nissan-Kia.

“That is what has made the Z so successful since 1970,

and this year’s model is the most refined we’ve ever built,

with the most performance and technology in its class.”

For 2010, the 370Z’s overall length has been reduced by nearly three inches,

while the distance between the front and rear wheels has been reduced by four inches.

All of this pruning, plus an increased use of lightweight aluminum body panels

and suspension components, means a reduction of close to 200 pounds.

Nissan committed to all-electric gamble Nissan President and CEO Carlos Ghosn connects a charger to the front of a Nissan Leaf electric car during the recent groundbreaking ceremony for the lithium-ion battery plant at the Smyrna, Tenn., manufacturing complex. G. CHAMBERS WILLIAMS III/SPECIAL TO THE EXPRESS-NEWS  G. Chambers Williams - G. Chambers Williams III

  Web Posted: 06/06/2010 12:00 CDT

Nissan recently broke ground on an eventual $1.8 billion U.S. investment for the manufacture of advanced lithium-ion batteries and the assembly of its Leaf electric car, which goes on limited sale in December (although it won’t be seen in Texas until sometime in 2011).The battery plant will be built behind the Nissan manufacturing facility near Nashville, Tenn., where the company already makes such vehicles as the Altima sedan and coupe, Maxima sedan, Frontier pickup, and Xterra and Pathfinder sport utilities (as well as the Suzuki Equator pickup). When it opened in 1983, it was the first U.S. assembly plant for a Japanese automaker.

The battery plant, a $1 billion investment by itself, and reconfiguration of the adjacent auto plant to allow for assembly of the Leaf, will bring 1,300 new jobs to the facility and allow Nissan to make up to 200,000 of the battery packs and 150,000 of the cars annually.

It’s a big gamble, pouring even more money into an ambitious project to build electric cars that some critics say consumers might never embrace.

But Nissan President and CEO Carlos Ghosn said he remains fully committed to the project, to which Nissan and its European partner, Renault, already have pledged more than $5 billion.

Analysts say the Leaf and other Nissan/Renault electric cars might succeed if gasoline prices rise to new record levels and remain there, but otherwise they could be slow catching on with consumers. The Leaf runs completely on battery power and must be recharged by an external source — whereas hybrids also have gasoline engines to recharge the batteries and to propel the vehicles.

Although Nissan will become the first automaker to attempt to mass-market electric cars, “there is not a mass market for these vehicles yet,” said George Peterson, president of the research firm AutoPacific.

The idea of Nissan embracing the electric car, while bypassing the hybrid vehicles that have been so successful for rival Toyota, isn’t really a surprise, he said.

“It’s kind of the wild, wild West out there right now, with manufacturers trying all kinds of things from hybrids to plug-in hybrids to pure electrics,” Peterson said. “Who knows what the right technology is going to be? But pure electrics are still hampered by a short range and a long charge time. Until those issues are resolved, a hybrid seems to make a lot more sense.”

The Tennessee investment is being financed mostly by a $1.4 billion loan from the federal government for alternative-fuel-vehicle manufacturing. The battery plant and the upgrades at the assembly plant are expected to be completed by late 2012. Until then, Nissan will import the Leaf and battery packs from Japan.

Hawkinson Nissan in the Matteson Auto Mall has HUGE selection of the 2010 Nissan Sentra

 Car Review 2010 Sentra

Stylish, Roomy, Upscale, Fun-To-Drive Compact Sedan

By Long Island Press on May 27th, 2010

By Sam Moses, New Car Test DriveThe Nissan Sentra is a compact sedan that offers much more than a first impression might suggest. It’s bigger than it looks, so it opens up to a roomy interior. It offers a commendable level of features, sophistication, safety and technology. And it’s fun to drive, so just because you’re saving money on gas doesn’t mean the commute, or the vacation trip, has to be boring. Finally, it’s stylish in a way that looks more expensive than the window sticker indicates.

The Sentra, available as a four-door sedan only (there is no hatchback or two-door model) was designed for the American market and American buyers. The Sentra is fun to drive, with a level of performance and handling that’s a pleasant surprise in a compact sedan. It’s powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder of 140 horsepower, which is matched to a very nice six-speed manual in the base car, with a continuously variable transmission (CVT) optional in the base car and standard on all other trim levels. It is EPA-rated at 24 mpg City, 31 mpg Highway with the manual and a very thrifty 26/34 mpg with the CVT.

There are two high-performance versions: The Sentra SE-R has a 2.5-liter engine with 177 horsepower and the CVT; its fuel economy figures are 24/30 mpg City/Highway. The SE-R Spec V has a performance suspension and W-rated P225/45R17 tires. The even higher performance SE-R Spec V has the 2.5-liter engine, but upgraded to 200 horsepower and fitted with a six-speed manual; it is EPA-rated at 21/28 mpg City/Highway. Both SE-R models include Vehicle Dynamic Control, Nissan’s electronic stability control system, which includes Traction Control; anti-lock brakes; Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD); AM/FM/CD/USB audio unit with six speakers, 160 watts and a 4.3-inch color display; and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. The SE-R models also have suspension modifications for sharper handling. Even though they offer higher levels of power and handling, they’re easy to live with, offer all the advantages of the standard Sentra and still deliver good fuel economy.

The SE-R Spec V ($20,080) comes with the 2.5-liter engine tuned to produce 200 hp and 180 pound-feet of torque, and a six-speed manual gearbox. The SE-R Spec V has a performance suspension and W-rated P225/45R17 tires. Optional is a Spec V Upgrade Package ($2,200), which is identical to the SE-R Upgrade Package except that it also includes a Helical Limited-Slip Differential.

Safety equipment includes dual-stage front airbags, front side airbags, full-length curtain airbags, active front-seat headrests, and a tire-pressure monitor. Antilock brakes with electronic brake-force distribution are standard on all but the 2.0, where they are optional.

The Nissan Sentra represents a solid value. It’s roomy inside, the engine is modern and competitive, and the chassis provides good handling and a comfortable ride. We like the continuously variable transmission. All told, if you’re in the market for a compact sedan that offers a lot of value in a lot of areas, the Sentra deserves your attention.

Leaf venture to thrive, Nissan says

Nissan North America broke ground Wednesday for a lithium-ion battery plant as part of a plan to build a five passenger all-electric car, the Leaf, and create up to 1,300 jobs in Tennessee.

The automaker’s top executive said it was a no-risk venture.

“This is going to be a money-maker,” Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn said.

The battery plant is part of a $1.7-billion investment to start production of the Leaf in 2012.

Most of the investment comes from a federal loan aimed at fostering energy independence.

The four-door hatchback has a range of 100 miles on a single charge.

It is to have a base price of $32,780, but it’s eligible for a $7,500 federal tax credit, making it closer to $25,000.

It is no surprise that American consumers are looking to save money wherever they can these days.  In terms of the automobiles they are buying, that means people are seeking quality and value from the shallow end of the pool, rather than in the luxury or near-luxury markets.  The Nissan Versa falls into that category.

The Versa is Nissan’s entry-level subcompact offered in both hatchback and sedan version that is the most affordable vehicle in the Nissan lineup. Built on Nissan’s “B” platform, the Versa name reflects the “versatile space” provided by the roomy interior and cargo area. Introduced in 2006 as a 2007 model 5-door hatchback, the sedan version was added to the lineup later in 2006.

The Versa packs a relatively spacious interior in a short body. The engine is civilized but not overly powerful. The ride is comfortable and the rear seat is roomy. Handling isn’t particularly nimble. The antilock brakes are standard on all trims with the 1.8-liter engine and ESC is standard on the SL trim for 2010.

Revealed: 2011 Nissan Leaf Electric Car

Hawkinson Nisssan in the Matteson Auto Mall / Chicago Nissan Dealer

Nissan LEAF

13,000 advance orders for the Nissan Leaf electric car

Nissan CEO Ghosn Sticks With Bullish Electric-Car Forecast Carlos Ghosn, credited with turning around ailing Nissan a decade ago, said today he’s confident sales of electric cars will account for 10% of the market by 2020. He isn’t worried by naysayers who, he says, are often car makers who simply aren’t prepared to compete in the rising electric segment. The Nissan and Renault CEO said in a meeting with Wall Street Journal editors and reporters that the two car companies plan to roll out several electric models in the next few years. If anything, he says, that pace may still be too slow because demand for electrics is almost certain to accelerate once consumers see them in action. His biggest worry: that demand for electric vehicles “will take off faster than expected and we will be under capacity.”

So why he so bullish on electric cars when many analysts and industry watchers predict they will account for only about 2% of the market in 10 years? Part of the reason is infrastructure. Ghosn says Nissan is pursuing agreements with governments and businesses to install charging stations in parking garages, shopping areas, office parks and elsewhere so drivers won’t have to worry as much about range, a nagging disadvantage for electrics compared with gasoline-powered cars.

Ghosn also says there are charging systems in development that can cut the time it takes to recharge electric car batteries from hours to minutes. Nissan is focused on the U.S. launch in December of the Leaf, an electric sedan with a range of about 100 miles. Ghosn says the company is in contact with 130,000 “hand raisers” — people who have expressed interest in the Leaf, and 13,000 advance orders for the car. He says these numbers represent individual consumers, not government and corporate fleets.
